Dungeon Settlers Beginner Guide: A Safe First Settlement and First Expedition
Build the settlement around survival first: shelter, a research room, basic production, food stability, then expedition gear. The dungeon is where much of your progression material comes from, so the safest loop is prepare → delve → gather → return → upgrade.

The early loop to learn first
Treat the settlement and dungeon as one economy. Pre-release play shows a loop of gathering dungeon resources, returning through the portal, and using them to build, craft, research and improve gear.
Do not overextend your first expedition. Real-time combat can be paused, but downed characters can bleed out and permanent death is part of the game’s design.
First-settlement checklist
Put down a basic workstation early.
Create an enclosed indoor room before depending on research.
Provide sleeping and dining space instead of leaving everyone on the floor.
Stabilize food before recruiting faster than you can feed.
Craft ammunition for ranged users and healing items before the next dive.
Only then spend excess production on armor upgrades and deeper research.
What to recheck in Early Access
Weapons can change your active options. Compare their tactical effects, not only their damage.
Characters have race/background/personality traits plus multiple core stats that influence both combat and settlement jobs.
The portal is the bridge between base management and procedural dungeon expeditions.
Early Access update
This guide focuses on durable decision order rather than exact pre-release numbers. The developer has said the Early Access build differs from the earlier demo, so check costs and values after launch.
