Dungeon Settlers Expedition Guide: Rations, Floors, Loot & When to Retreat

Last checked: September 1, 2026Pre-release guide — recheck after launch

Bring enough food, healing and ammunition for the party you actually field, then treat every deeper floor as a risk/reward decision. The game explicitly makes deeper floors more valuable and more dangerous. If a key member is down, supplies are thin, or the next room counters your current party, retreating can be the highest-value move.

Before entering the portal

Pick the party for the region, not just your four highest levels.

Pack food/rations, healing items and ammunition for ranged characters.

Check equipment durability/quality and whether each member has a clear job in combat.

Leave enough food at home that the settlement does not collapse while the expedition is away.

Inside the dungeon

Pause frequently. Use pause for repositioning and ability orders.

Visibility can be limited and some enemies have dangerous special attacks. Scout corners instead of dragging the entire party blindly into a room.

Gather before leaving a safe room, and mark resources before returning through the portal.

When to retreat

A member is down and recovery resources are scarce.

Your food/ammo plan no longer covers the expected remaining floors.

A region modifier or enemy group invalidates your party plan.

You have already secured the material that solves the settlement’s current bottleneck.

Permanent death means “one more room” is not automatically the correct decision.

Procedural warning

Floors and rooms can be randomly composed, and regions can apply random environmental effects. This means static walkthrough routes should not pretend every run has the same room sequence.
