Dungeon Settlers Food, Starvation & Mood Guide
Food is not a side system: every extra recruit is another mouth, and expeditions also need supplies. Stabilize a repeatable food chain before expanding population, then reserve separate expedition rations so a long dungeon run does not drain the settlement.

Why food snowballs into bigger problems
In pre-release builds, hunger can create an early failure state. Traits can alter hunger behavior, and food quality can interact with mood, so “more bodies” is not automatically stronger.
The safest expansion rule is simple: recruit only after your normal food production is consistently positive and you can still pack supplies for an expedition.
Food priority order
Secure a basic food source immediately.
Research improved cuisine only when your current chain is stable enough to support the research delay.
Separate day-to-day settlement food from dungeon rations in your planning.
Check traits before recruiting; a strong fighter with difficult food demands may create a settlement bottleneck.
Mood and stress
The game tracks mood and stress-like states. Pre-release builds show character traits affecting mood-related behavior and dungeon pressure affecting mental state.
Do not treat mood as cosmetic. A low-mood settler can be a weaker long-term investment than a slightly worse recruit whose traits fit your settlement economy.
What to recheck after launch
Exact food values, crop yields, consumption rates, recipe efficiencies, and trait modifiers are held back until the Early Access build can be checked.
