Dungeon Settlers Skills, Traits & Builds Guide

Last checked: September 1, 2026Pre-release guide — recheck after launch

Build around roles and synergy, not raw level. A recruit’s weapon tree, sub-skills, six core stats, race/background/personality traits, equipment and settlement usefulness all matter. The best party covers front-line control, ranged pressure, support/utility and a reliable answer to enemy status or positioning problems.

Version note: Early Access is scheduled for September 4, 2026. This guide uses pre-release information; values and systems may change after launch.

What a character build actually contains

Pre-release builds include main skills tied to weapon categories, sub-skills that specialize passive or defensive behavior, and six visible core attributes: Strength, Willpower, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence and Perception.

Race, background and personality-style traits can modify combat or settlement behavior.

Role-first party setup

Front line: durable control, guard, provoke or mitigation.

Damage: a reliable single-target or cleave source that does not compete too heavily for the same positioning.

Ranged: bow or magic to solve dangerous targets without walking into every threat.

Utility: healing, status, summons or another specialty that covers the region’s hazards.

Recruitment rule that saves headaches

Do not recruit from the portrait alone. Compare the recruit’s traits, stats, available skill trees, current equipment and the settlement job they can perform while not adventuring.

A character that looks slightly weaker in combat may be the better account-wide pick if they fix mining, crafting or food production.

Details to recheck after launch

Exact skill coefficients, reset methods, best-in-slot combinations and definitive tier lists are left open until the Early Access build can be checked.
